bloggers - ERP

say, i very much wanted to comment on the decision to the new ERP charges, but i suppose people are probably running search engines for the slightest chance to sue people for defamation. let me explain why.

bloggers have the power to influence, to get a clique of people who agree with them, and these people, who are probably bloggers, spread the message. how powerful are bloggers? according to fortune magazine, (vol. 151 January 24, 2005) "freewheeling bloggers can boost your product- or destroy it"

because bloggers dont lie, they have no incentive to. if they say a product is good, it's basically what they feel, if they think a policy is bad, they have no incentive to cook up stories either.

it's amazing, the coverage of the Internet, where there is hardly censorship, it is in many ways comparable to medias like the CNN. except here, there's no governent intervention, no social norms, no rules, no boundaries, no propaganda. all it takes is a sensible reader to process the information and judge for themselves what is politically correct.

which is the reason why people fear bloggers, the Internet, like a wild mustang, spreads these ideas, so who or what do we do to stop these? people decide that we should sue the bloggers. i'm sure we all know many incidents about bloggers being sued. the Internet is not such a free media after all, now there's no such thing known as the freedom of speech. no matter how nice you try to beautify the scenario. actions you read in the news prove otherwise.

okay, so back to my main topic. if i do say anything that i can get sued for, remind me to remove it.

in my opinion, traffic jams are not good enough excuses to charge us for using roads. we do pay the road tax. entering into the CBD during peak hours? fine, because congestion in the CBD is a problem faced by all countries, it's a logical way to solve it.

but the charges in what?! places like orchard road? in my opinion, we rely too much on charging people. there has to be a better way to deal with this. sure, you can argue that if people can afford cars, they can afford the charges.. but of course, LTA spokesmen did say (not in original words) that they want to encourage people to use public transport. tell me then, does fare hikes ring a bell?

i really dont understand what people think. it's like, one day we tell you that this good is recommended for consumption and we all encourage it, the next day we implement a tax to it. what does this mean?

i think people can look for alternative routes if they want to, in this case, i believe time is the cost. if they can wait, let them wait. they can always choose an alternative route. one thing i dont understand - the infrastructure in Singapore is more than pretty decent. why do people have to use one main route? stop staring at the obvious, it's probably the shortest path.

after all, if you dont spend on ERP, you've got to spend on petrol. but again, during peak hours, which road in Singapore DOESNT jam? you think charging works? i beg to differ.
