beauty

i was shocked that someone actually told me this in this era in Singapore
"Girls shouldnt study so much"
and that, coming from a graduate himself, seemed like an irony.

to some people, the main role of women is still to bear the responsibility of looking after the kids. quoting a colleague "i pay my wife to make sure she stays at home and not go out to work."

some tell me that women should make sure that they look good all the time. some salesmen tell me that no matter how hard they try, the lose to women in terms of sales because they dont wear a skirt and look beautiful.

so back to this graduate friend.. he tells me that girls should just dress up, look pretty, and become no more than a trophy for their husbands. that, i find very disturbing.

so when we finally think that we have achieved equality, these MCPs come along and ruin your mood. so what's as bad as being racist? being a sexist.

so when i asked him to define "being beautiful", he said he'll want someone who looks like ruby lin. small, petite, and well, looks as though she'll sucumb to his control. or so i thought.

my idea of beautiful? someone like catherine zeta-jones. a woman, a real woman, married to one of the most good-looking man (at least he was years back), and she's just damn gorgeous.

no, not like my friend's kind of "perfect" wife. that's someone with an kick-ass attitude.
